THE Katsina State government has spent over eighty million Naira in refunding parents who sponsored their children’s Senior School Certificate Examinations, SSCE, this year.
The Director-General of Katsina Media and Publicity, Malam Ibrahim Muazzam stated this in an interview with newsmen in Katsina.
He explained that the money was paid to parents of students who passed their NECO and WAEC examinations with five credits and above.
He said the repayment was aimed at encouraging parents to be attentive to their children’s education.
The DG Media noted that the policy of conditional payment of WAEC and NECO fees was aimed at encouraging better performance in these examinations.
Malam Ibrahim Muazzam pointed out that since the policy was introduced, the state has recorded a significant improvement in the percentage of its students that pass these examinations.
He explained that as a result of the policy, the percentage of students that score five credits and above in WAEC has risen from 6% in the last three years to 55% this year, while that of NECO has improved from 7% to 72%.
He urged parents and students to continue to show support and understanding as the Masari-led administration works to improve the educational standard in the state.
