Bible Study: Good and Evil

PSALMS 111: 10 – “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; A GOOD understanding have all those who do His commandments”

I posted this story awhile back, about the farmer whose only stallion broke lose and ran away. His neighbor said “you must be evil for your horse to run away”, couples of days later – the stallion returned with 5 more stallions, his neighbor said “you must be good”.

In trying to tame one of the wild stallion, the farmer’s son broke his leg, the neighbor again said “you must be evil”. A week are the farmer’s son broke his leg, WWII broke out and he was exempted (disability) – the neighbor said “you must be good”.

My son gave me a similar scenario, when we were discussing his Phl 105 class (he took as a sophomore). He gave the scenario of a cat crying on a tree – Jesus walked by and left the cat on the tree crying, Satan walked by and brought the cat down – so, who is Good?

The above is what happens when human chooses to define what is Good and what is Evil, the Bible is filled with what God calls Good (those who obey Him) and what He calls Evil (acts based on human depravity – evil if it seems good to man, such as humanism).

The Kingdom of Darkness through human depraved institutions, seek to define EVIL as Black and White, Jews and Gentiles, Rich and Poor, Brahmins and Dalits, Europeans vs. Africans, etc. NOT the kingdom of darkness of depraved minds vs. the kingdom of heaven on earth with the Mind of Christ through the God’s Spirit in us.

You see as humans, Black, White, Brown, Jew, Gentiles, Smart, not so Smart, etc. we were created in God’s many images to complement each other, so it is not the differences that creates Good and Evil, it is the spiritual Kingdom we belong that influences our Worldview and belief system.

There is no region of the World that people of the same skin color have not done evil to each other – the Irish were enslaved by other White people, Black people in Africa enslaved each other before colonialists came, in Asia today – caste system separate one group from another, Black people in America still kill other Black people, etc.

As terrible as man’s inhumanity is to another human – the root of such inhumanity is NOT skin color or gender, it is EVIL born in and from a depraved heart – Paul the apostle wrote “Furthermore, since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, He gave them up to a depraved mind, to do what should not be done”.

Any and Every human (color or gender), not in relationship with God, has the potential for a depraved mind, influenced by the kingdom of darkness, to do what God says NOT to do – even if the world calls it GOOD. I have learnt that it is not every need I see that I try to resolve, sometimes my role is to comfort and pray for strength for that person.

Want to do GOOD according to God’s word (not humanism – doing good based on human without allegiance to sovereignty) – start by having the Fear (timao – reverence) of God, which is the beginning of Wisdom (application of knowledge).

So, go give to your favorite charity today, not because everyone is doing it, but because you desire to worship God through your giving and that charity is simply a beneficiary.
